Cold Weather Strategies
Cold weather is lurking, ready to try to keep us from improving our golf games. Don’t let it happen, do some indoor work when it is too nasty to go out.
Do a little Yoga and Pilates for stretching and strengthening. If you don’t know how, there are exercise shows on TV, check your regular and cable listings (record the programs if you are not home at broadcast times) or buy a workout tape at your local discount store. Yoga is also good for calming those who get excited over bad shots on the golf course.
Do some reading:
For the mental approach: Golf is Not a Game of Perfect, Dr. Bob Rotella
From a learning standpoint: Learning Golf or Rethinking Golf, both by Chuck Hogan
For a mechanical approach: Five Lessons the Modern Fundamentals of Golf, Ben Hogan or to keep it simpler, Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book.
Just for fun: Golf in the Kingdom, Michael Murphy
Finally, touching, inspiring, and encompassing much of golf’s purpose: Final Rounds, James Dodson (I just happened to find the audio tape before a long trip so I didn’t read this one, I listened).
Enjoy your indoor winter golf when the weather is ugly and get out and play or hit balls when we get those pleasant surprise days. Remember, I’ll be available through the winter by appointment, for lessons (call me at 215-431-4630). The range in Southampton PA does have heaters to help keep you comfortable for lessons or practice.
