Do you have a weight problem?
Improper weight shift is one of the most difficult
components of the golf swing to overcome.
Here is a drill to practice at home to help develop a better feel.
You can do this with or without holding a club. After getting set in your
golf posture, with your weight about 50/50 and your feet no wider than under
your feet, you will be changing pressure in your feet. Turn your body away
from the target and toward the target, simulating the movement during the
swing. As you extend your arms back, step right and release the pressure off
your left foot, as you swing your arms to the target, step left and release
the pressure on your right foot (reverse if you are playing left handed). It
is important to maintain your knee flexed during this exercise. You should
feel as if you could lift the opposite foot as you balance over your right
hip and then the left.
To get even more from this exercise and to make sure you are using your hips
to turn, let the light foot slightly lift ( but completely) off the ground
and turn your toes in toward the opposite foot, then the same with the
right. This helps to assure the hips are doing the work and not the knees.
Practice this for a few minutes as often as you can and the weight shift
will feel more natural and flow better as you swing.
